Tire Question

Hi, I have a 04 FX4 with stock 17x7.5 Wheels. I plan on putting on a lift and I would like to put the biggest tire i can on. I have read that people are putting on BFG ATs 315/70/17 on the stock rims. How safe is that since BFG recommends a 8.5" wide rim. Just curious. I'll probably end up putting 285's back on. Thanks

A lot of member's put 315's on the stock wheels with no problems, I have mine on 8" aftermarket wheels. On a leveled truck these wheels will work fine. If you lift your truck with a suspension lift you may have to use 9" wide wheels with close to 5 inches BS. Check with Wandell for a more precise answer!! Welcome to the site.

If you plan on putting a lift on your truck then i would go with a wider wheel.
The 315s are fine to put on a stock wheel if you arent lifting your truck a lot. But with tha lift it is safer to go with a wider wheel if you plan on putting the larger tires on.

I agree. Make sure the lift manufacturer doensn't recomment a certain backspacing.
