Getting better braking, What can I do?

I have a 2000 F150 subercab short bed and my brakes pads are all good.
The truck seems weak in the breaking area, It stops fine but I'm used to
better braking. Has anyone upgraded in the braking, oversize rotors? etc.
Are there better brake pads that grab more? Maybe just upgrade the
front to save money too. Thanks all.

I recently switched over to some Hawk LTS pads. I think for the money, they are a great upgrade and make a significant difference in feel and overall brake torque. Anything beyond this is going to require larger rotors, calipers and larger wheels..

The Hawks are available from tirerack and raceshopper. You can read about them there(tirerack) as well, as they have had pretty good reviews. I think mine were about 73 for the fronts.

How about some stainless brake lines? Gives you a better brake "feel" and sends more power to the calipers. Better pads will help alot too.
<- what's up with the bandito?

I also upgraded to the Hawk LTS pads and I put Power Slot rotors on. Much better braking IMO. Dust is not real bad with LTS pads.

Dusting from the LTS is no different than a typical semi metallic pad.

What is the expected life of the Hawk pads? Will they wear our significantly faster than the OEM pads because they are a stronger material?

The Hawks will outlast any stock pads. Ive used them on other cars(vette and a mustang) and usually gotten about 25% longer life than the typical stock pad.

Elaborate on this a little more... Was it THIS truck that you were used to better braking, or a different vehicle?

Big difference between a #5000 truck and a #3000 car, if that's what you are comparing it to..

My truck takes longer to stop then my wifes Rav4, but I feel the truck stops pretty good for what it is..

I can only compare my Hawk LTS to the stock oem ford pads, in that regard, they easily outperform them in terms of brake torque fade and modulation.

Im not sure if i can post links but you can easily search and read about them on their website.

I don't know about the pads, some are better than others I guess and rotors the same. In real life, you'd be splitting hairs trying to stop a few feet or inches sooner. For REAL better braking, upgraded rotor and calipers are the way to experience alot better braking. Bigger rotors with larger more piston calipers is a good way. Trying not to sound too corny, defensive driving and braking sooner is the cheapest upgrade. The brakes on my truck have been more than sufficient for me.

Carquest blue's semi-metallic are a bit better than stock, virtually dust free and wears good too.
