Opinions Needed: Going from 20's to 18's Yay or Nay??

Hey gang,

I'm in the market for new tires and wheels. I currently have 20x8.5 Wingmans on stock Pirelli's. I am thinking of going with some Moto Metal 958's They have these available in both 18's and 20's. Obviously when you talk about 20's, the price on the tires and wheels are way more $$$ than 18's. I just don't know what to do? I can afford the price for both new tires and wheels in either size. I'm just torn if I should downsize to save some money or stay with 20's? If I downsize, I'll have a few extra bucks for some other mods. If I stay with 20's, no extra money for mods. What do you all think???

well since you have a Fx4 i'd personally go with some 33" terra grapplers and some 18" wheels because i like more sidewall, just my $0.02

The answer is obvious. More mods! IMO, more rubber and less rim is a better look on a truck. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing 20's, I just think that they look better on lifted trucks, while 18's look better on stock height trucks. In the end, the decision is up to you........

Yea,

That's kind of what I am leaning towards. 18's on 33 Nitto TG's. I'd love to put a 4" lift on my truck, but I can not afford it. That's one of the reasons I am thinking of downsizing to 18's! Anyway, keep those opinions coming!

Hey ChumFX4, do you have any rubbing with your combo? What size level kit do you have? I'm running a 2.5" I'm just wondering if I'd have to trim any?

Russ47 Jan 25, 2008 10:08 AM

i know the perfect setup for your truck!
some 33x12.50x18 terra graps and some 18" black KMC spy wheels or some 18" black XD diesel wheels

2.5 and only rubbing was on the fender flare, only slightly. Dremel tool took care of that!

I'd go with 18's and 33's.

if I were going to do 18's...I was going to buy these.

They would look B-A-D on your rig with some 33 Toyos or Coopers on them.

I have to throw my .02 in here. Unless your 2wd and lowered, more rubber and less wheel always looks better to me. I have the factory 18" wheel on my truck. If I ever got aftermarket wheels, I would seriously go for 17" because of price of wheel and tires for on thing, and there are more options for tires at 17". i.e. Goodyear MTR's come in 17" 35's .

Dumb question? I know that 305/55/20 are essentially 33x12.50x20

What size equals 33x12.50x18???? Is it 325/60/18?????

wandell Jan 25, 2008 12:47 PM

A 325/60-18 is a very commom size, but it's basically a 33x13.00-18 tire. That is the size I would go with.

I have to agree with everyone who says more rubber and less wheel. it makes more sense on the pocket book and it also looks better in my book. I think the 20" rims only look good with 35" or larger tires. just my opinion. good luck and post some pics when you get your new rims.

Just out of curiosity? Are there any 33's that come in a 12.50 width? Or? What are the common widths in a 33" tire on a 18" wheel?

18's and 33's

That combo would look very good on your truck.
