Bah..wheel size/bs question.

Ok, Im looking at some new 17 inch wheels and Im having trouble figuring out which ones to go with. They come in 17x8 w/ 4.5" bs, 17x9 w/ 4.5" bs, and 17x9 w/ 4.75" bs.

I plan on running 295-70-17 tires...

Ive seen pics with the 17x8/4.5bs and 295 combo and would kind of like a little more lip on the wheel, and to have them stick out a little more.
Shouldnt a wider (9") wheel make the tire apear to be a little wider too, which I would like?
So I have kind of ruled that out by myself. So then its down to the 17x9s I think...I dont know what would be better though, the 4.5 or 4.75" of bs. If Im not mistaken, the 4.5" bs should stick out 2.5 inches more than the stock rims, and the 4.75 should stick out just 2.25 inches more than the stock rims??

Is this too much backspacing for a 9 inch wide wheel?
I would like to find some pics of 9" wide wheels with a 4.5 or so inch BS but really cant find much :o

Sounds like you figured it out on your own. Also, 4.5 inches of backspacing is not too much for a 04-08 F-150. If anything is is on the verge of not being enough backspacing. Personally, I'd want 5 to 6 inches of bs on a 9 inch wide wheel.

Thanks Wandell

By 'too much' I kind of meant 'having the wheels stick out to far' which would be a lower number...I should have reworded that better.

You think a 5 or 6" bs, which would put the wheel in a little more, would be better huh?

They do have a 4.75" BS.

I am looking at a 20x9 30+ which I think equals a 6" Backspacing. Is that correct? And how much would stick out with 35x12.5 Toyo MT's and a 6" Lift. I am ready to buy the rims and tires but I hope they stick out far enough. At least an inch would be nice.

A 9 inch wide wheel with 6 inches of bs would stick out an inch farther than the OEM 17' and 18's.
