Gas Mileage

Ok....so i've been reading threads about how people are getting 17,18, and even 19 miles to the gallon. I have an 05 FX4 with a 2 1/2 inch leveling kit and 285/70/17 BFG all-terrains. I also have the Edge Evolution set to the performance setting and I am getting between 10.5 and 13 mpg at the most around town and about 16 on the highway. I know what y'all are thinking.........quit driving like a bad a$$.........but i don't. Is there something that i'm missing. My tires are at 45psi, I don't drive crazily, and i haven't seen an improvement with my edge evolution chip at all. Should i set my chip to a different setting or what?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I drive a truck because I have to, not because of gas mileage.

I noticed my mileage increase after the cat-back and cold air kit. Are you still running the stock exhaust and intake?

I've got mine set on level 2 running 87 octane with 35" tires and just checked my mpg and showed 15.3 mpg ,half hwy and half city driving. I think my truck get's great mileage compared to truck's I've had in the past. Most I've ever gotten was 18.1 on the hwy.

Are you figuring your mileage out manually or just going by what the Edge says??? I use a custom lvl 2 tune and I see about 14-15 city and 17-18 on the highway. Have you ever changed the fuel filter? I am not saying the filter is causing the bad MPG but a new one wouldnt hurt. I change mine every 15,000.

Mine is set to the tow performance program, set for towing and to use 87 octane. Runs great with a K&N drop in and a Flow 40 exhaust, tow's a lot better than stock to boot!

If you live in an area with low energy content 'clean' fuel, you will get worse mileage than someone else with the same truck who gets higher energy content fuel. Ford trucks seem to be especially senstive to energy content in the fuel (not the same as octane). Low energy content fuel is commonly found in any area with an air quality problem.

In California, for air quality reasons we get low energy content fuel year round. Some places just get it in winter, and some never get it.

IMO, the energy content of the fuel is a BIG factor in determining your fuel mileage with a Ford truck.
