if i put a 2" leveling kit on 05 4x4, with 305/65/17 tires on 17x9 rims, is there any backspacing that won't work with this setup, or can i be anywhere from 4.5" to 5.5"? thanks.

 

I think you'll be OK, I had 315x70's on 17x9 w/ 5 inches of backspacing and only had minor rubbing on the lower wheelwells. Remember, the more you keep them tucked in the wheelwells the lower the chance of rubbing on the front. I'd try to get a 9" wheel with 5 inches of BS.
