Brakes locking, getting hot, etc

Well I'm fed up, I've antiseized the slide pins, new pads, rotors are fine, and bled the entire system. I even installed 4 new bleeder screws! And my front brakes are still getting hot and locking up. Well after researching on here and finding out about the swelling and weakening of the flexi brake hoses running from caliper to frame, I've ordered one for left and right sides from NAPA and plan to replace those.

Does it make sense that these could be my problem since I've gone over everything else and the fact that they are the original 97 hoses? My mechanic said they just did a job for a guy and they replaced everything except the flexi hoses, when they replaced those, all of the gentlemans braking problems were cured.

Seem fairly logical to replace them?

Thanks!

What could go wrong with the caliper? Just bad/worn pistons and seals? I'll probably put new ones on this summer anyways. Are they terribly expensive?

re-mans aren't too bad. New will cost ya' though. Don't forget the core charge. I would bring in the old ones at time of purchase to avoid it.

Yeah I hope i don't have to get new calipers, I'm gonna try replacing these hoses first since they are considerably cheaper! And if the problem is still there then a new caliper is goin on.

just had to overhaul my front calipers this weekend - all the crud in my old fluid essentially caused the piston seals to swell - pistons weren't retracting and my rotors warped over a short time. Rears are just about in the same shape - they're next on the rebuild list.

sounds like you're in the same boat.....

Lovely! I'll just buy new calipers if that turns out to be the problem.

On your brake problem, you have allready taken care of the cheapest and the first thing to do,that is lubricating all moving external parts,on the rubber line,it will act like a check valve, you have high pressure flowing thru it to caliper, but no pressure out,so sometimes the hose will not allow the fluid out if it is collapsed inside of it.On the caliper side, when the piston gets swollen and or the seal swells,or rust starts to form inside the caliper, the piston will work when you apply pressure to the brakes, but will not release due to rust or swollen componets, you are on the right track,so if the hoses do not correct the problem, the next thing is calipers, also,I would recommend a fluid change and flush.Flush out all calipers and or wheel cylinders to remove any contaminated fluid and replace with a high quality fluid.

Hi there adeese660, I hear ya! I did do a flush earlier because they were giving my trouble, so I do have new fluid in all the lines, But I am gonna do it again after I change the hoses and clean and relube the slider pins.

It was a recall on some of the earlier models I have a 99 and my passenger side locked up and siezed had to replace caliper, rotor and hose. Then a few months later the driver side did it. Both were replaced at no cost to me so might wanna get that checked out could be a defect.

Well folks heres the lodown!

new hoses, new calipers, turned rotors

$280
The passenger side lower piston was siezed causing my overheat conditions and the brakes had worn a groove into the rotors, my tech Dan said maybe new rotors but he tried to turn them on the lathe and they came out beautiful.

I told him since the passenger caliper was shot replace the driverside too.

So its all over!
