Little clips on brake pads

just installed the carquest blue semi-metallics on the front.... looking at them in the box noticed that 2 out of the 4 pads had a little clip towards the end...

started with drivers side... the inner pad had the little clip towards the bottom...

get to passenger side and little clip is on the outer pad towards the top...

no mention of this clip in the haynes manual, no mention of the clip in the spartan instructions included with pads, or anywhere else I had immediate access to... so for uniformity I installed both little clips on the inside pad towards bottom

so - where do they really go and what's their purpose

thnx

Think you are talking about the wear indicater. When the pads wear down the tab rubs the rotor to let you know when the brakes need attention.

Inner bottom is where the indicator goes, almost 100% sure but when you take the old ones off, check where it is on them to be completely sure.

not sure in the blues but normally one side will be inner bottom the other will be inner top, as the pads are identical. They face different directions.

Take a look at "ears" of the pads with the wear indicators. The ears are the extensions on the ends of the pads that ride along the stainless steel slippers on the caliper brackets. One end of the pad has an ear the looks like this: [
The other ear looks like more like: L.

So its not: ]pad[

The ear that looks like an L goes toward the top on the outside in the rear. I believe this ear also has the wear indicator on it. I could go look to make sure if you want me to.

Re-reading your post, are you sure those are front pads? I just installed blues on my 2004 (new body style) and the rears have the wear indicators. The fronts were all completely identical with no wear indicators.

Agreed. I just did my fronts with Carquest Blues and the slippers were identical, as far as I could tell.
