2001 Rims Peeling

I got a 2001 F-150 XLT. I thought I had polished aluminum wheels, but my friends are telling me they are chrome plated. Regardless, the problem is that the shiny layer on all of them is peeling off. Im thinking this may be the chrome pealing, but Im not sure.

Without replacing the rims, is there anything that can be done to restore the shiny layer, like a polish or rechroming?

Thanks.

There were a couple of different OEM wheels. You could have chrome plated or clearcoated wheels. It should be easy to tell the difference. Do the peeling pieces look like a thin shiny piece of metal or a thin piece of pait?

aluminum or steel

got a magnet?

there is a site that sells take off wheels off trucks brand new with or without tires.... time to upgrade.

fixing 7 year old wheels is tossing money away.
