Anyone have BFG A/T tires on stock 20's?

Im been tossing around the idea of getting new summer wheels/tires and use my current stockers for winter, or just get a nice set of tires my 20" stockers. I think I may just get new tires. I dont want to level because I tow and I dont want to throw huge tires on there and get poor gas milage but I do want to fill out the wheel wells as much as I can w/out rubbing.

I pretty much made up my mind of BFG all-terrains 285/55R20. I think these should fit well. Anyone have any pics of this setup or comments?

Thanks for any help.

They will fit with no problems. I am running 305/55/20's on the factory rims with very minor rubbing at full lock. The 285/55 is almost a 1/2 wider than the stock Pirellis and close to a 1/2 more in diameter. Personally, I dont think you would even be able to visibly tell a difference over the stock tires. I would go a little bigger if I was going to shell out $1300 for tires. I'm not 100% on this but BFG makes a 285/65/20 that may work without a leveling kit. My 305/55's (33X12) rub because of the width and I do not have a leveling kit. The 285/65 is only an inch more in diameter over the 305/55 and I think I could run that without the level. I am not even close to rubbing anything because of the height of my tires so I really think they would work, not positive though.

Ive got 325/60/20 and love them, I would reccomend the 285/65/20, b/c they are 100 cheaper a tire and there is not a difference to the untrained eye

Thanks for the info raptor. I felt behind my stock tires and MAN are they even prettty close to the control arm. Its crazy how you could fit a 305 on those stock tires! Thats why I was thinking stick with a 285 but Im still not sure. Ya I want to go a little bigger but I really just want to get rid of the stock tires bceasue they dont perform to well in this snow and I would like a little more aggresive tire like the BFG all terrain.

Ive looked at your gallery a few times and love the look but IDK if I want a leveling kit because I tow quite a bit during hunting season.(my boat and enclosed traielr). If I knew it wouldnt squat at all I would probably most likely do it. Do you think you need a leveling kit with those tires? Do you tow at all with the leveling kit? Are you close to rubbing at all?Any info would be appreciated!

I havent "leveled" my truck for the same reason, I tow a heavy trailer alot. When my trailer is hooked up my truck sits perfectly level so if I had the 2" or 2.5" up front I would be looking at the sky, I agree, with the kit the truck would look better but for my situation I think I will stay stock for now. If I were you I would really consider the 285/65/20, the width will not cause any problems for sure but the height I would check into a little further, if you go with the leveling kit then the height would not be a problem. I absolutely love my 305/55/20's I will not go any smaller on future tires. I have to crank the wheel ALL the way over and sometimes I feel just a slight rub and other times it doesnt rub at all. I have few pictures in my gallery if you want to check them out, its under Raptor2.

The 285/65/20's won't fit without at least a 2" level and that will rub slightly without minor trimming.

You might be o.k. without a leveling kit with these tires but not sure. I do tow my boat and a trailor a good bit and I really cant tell the difference in my front end. Try to see if there is someone local that you can try to see if it fits first. That is what I did I actually tried 325/65/20 and 305/55/20 Nitto's and the 325 would not even go on with my 20 inch o.e.m. rims it touch the control arm. The 305 rubbed at full turn but did not fill the wheel well up enough in my opinion. The B.F.G. AT 285/65/20 is little over an inch skinner than the 305 but is almost 2 inches taller and is a better snow tire.

285/65/20's For Sale

Hey mgp32. I put the 285/65/20's on my 08 King Ranch, and they look pretty good, ride awesome but I just didn't like the look of the high sidewall, so I am selling them. I bought them from Tire Rack and they will not accept returns on mounted/driven tires. I have put 40 miles on them and will sell for $1200 plus shipping. Let me know what you think. Shoot me an email address and I'll send you a picture.

Do you have a leveling kit? Because I dont think Im going to level because I measured and my front is only a little over an inch lower than the back stock so I would be definately looking at the sky.

And I really dont know if I want that big of a tire because I dont want to lose any MPG...that is almost a 35" tire so Im sure you prolly seen a 3 mpg drop correct?

When I went from the stockers (31") to the 305's (33") I could not tell any difference what so ever in MPG's. IF you go from stock to the 285/65 (around 34.5") you may tell some difference. My truck gets crappy gas mileage anyway so I figured if I lost 1 or 2 mpg's it would not be the end of the world. Ford really needs to work on MPG's of these trucks.

285's

I do have a 3" leveling kit on the front and replaced the 2" oem blocks in the back with 3". Yeah I did see a little drop in MPG's maybe 1 or 2, depending on the way you drive. But hey we obviously don't buy trucks for the gas mileage, cause chicks just don't dig 4x2 nissan short bed's on 15" donuts right? Yeah sure you get 30 miles to the gallon but look at the sacrifice. Just put the 305/55/20'sBFG A/T's on, no rubbing even at full lock, awesome look too. Later, and good luck.

what about a 275/60/20? That will give you a little extra height.

If you want the 34+ inch tires, I have to believe you'd need to level, either due to rubbing or just because it'd look goofy.

If you get a 1.5 or 2" leveling kit, get an add-a-leaf to go with it and you'll have no problems with towing or your stance. In fact, it'll add a bit of payload/towing beef. It's a nice low-cost way of adding great looks as well as some functionality.
