Need some suggestions please

Hey guys. I'm looking for a tire/wheel upgrade for my recently purchased 07 XLT. I've got the stock 17" chrome clad rims (which I hate) and the general american tires. I plan on using my truck to tow a fairly large camper in a few months and I also use it for work. I DONT want M/T tires, nor do I want oversized tires that will kill my MPG and reduce my tow capabilities.

OK, so with that said I do want to upgrade my rims and tires. I'm thinking that 17" or 18" rims with BFG All-Terrain's will be my best bet given everything I stated above. Do you think I should just keep my eyes open on ebay and Craigslist for some 18" (or 17") FX4 or Lariat rims with BFG's? I'm guessing that will be the easiest and cheapest way to make a slight improvement in my rig.

Thanks in advance.

I'd look at a set of 285/70-17 or 285/65-18 BFG AT KO's on a set of 9 inch wide aftermarket wheels personally (since you mentioned BFG's).

Would that configuration (going wider) reduce my towing limit?

If anythingthing going wider just increases stability (wider footprint= stability). Also going with the BFG'S gives you a great tire with increased lod capacities.

I upgraded to the Pirelli's Scorpion ATR LT 245/70-17 Load range E so I can pull a 7500 Travel trailer. I have an '07 XLT w/ tow package. These tires are smooth and look great. I've had BFG's Rugged Trails on my 04 Excursion and that was a hard ride. If your going to be towing, make sure they're load range E or D at the very least and check the load rating before buying.
