Question ABS Weirdness

Haven't driven the truck since last Friday and experienced an ABS anomaly today.

The first couple stops after I left the house (sub-20mph), it felt like the ABS was kicking in (pedal vibrating, noise); even with very light pedal pressure. Shortly thereafter, the ABS light came on and pedal started feeling right. But, the ABS didn't work at all under hard braking.

Pulled over, shut off the truck, restarted...no ABS light, funky pedal behavior again. After 20-30 seconds, the ABS light came back on and pedal felt fine, but again, no ABS under hard braking.

I don't have a code reader so I can't easily check that. I did check fluid level and the two ABS connectors under the hood. I had them disconnected a couple weeks ago when I rebuilt the front suspension, but they're fine. Also, after that rebuild, I drove the truck for almost two weeks with nothing like this happening.

The only thing that's changed is the weather, now it's in the 40s when I leave the house.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

From: the moral high ground
I have had intermittent ABS light 'on' for years during some conditions:

heavy rain or hard sharp fast turns

No errors on next startup so, I haven't persued this.
I figure it's a sensor failing in extreme conditions.

I had the same thing..turned out to be a faulty sensor in the rear diff. the part was like 20 bucks and it takes all of about 10 minutes to replace it.

Cool

Just wanted to add to this thread. The original writer of this thread, SUPAHG33K, described my symptoms exactly. After reading through this thread, I crawled under my truck to take a look at the rear speed sensor and much to my surprise I found the plastic wire loom protection broken in three places and the green wire going to the speed sensor chaffed with copper showing. Apparently the wire had been rubbing on the top of the differential for quite sometime. So, thanks to the forum and this thread I have saved much time and money. The diagnosis was exactly related to the rear wheel sensor as indicated in the thread. I'm just glad I noticed the chaffed wires before I ran out and bought a new sensor. Thanks guys for all the information.

Hey guys

I had an ABS light problem. The brakes worked, even with the 315's on my truck. Anyway the light went on, and I searched for days for the problem... After checking sensors, and such it boiled down to me pulling the ABS module. Well in doing so there was a wire on the ABS Pump that module sits on. That wire had completely corroded through. I retinned that wire, and the light has stayed off.

I checked the pedal switch to. One day the truck started Idling a little rough at a stop light. I restarted it and while my foot was on the brake the ABS light went out. Replacing the switch at the pedal didn't fix it... It was a little damned wire at the pump.
