Largest tires on 18" rims, no lift, stock

Ok, I have searched through everything here and feel bad asking this again, but I haven't found this specific answer.. I have an '07 4x4 with 18" stock rims. I probably won't do a lift, and might consider a leveling kit at some point, but need to research it more before considering it.

So, I am looking to find out what the largest tires (they will be BFG ATs) that can be put on 18" stock rims. I am willing to trim where necessary. I am not necessarily looking for wider tires just the largest diameter (preferably in inches) that can be put on it.

Which leads me to a second questions, with the maximum diameter tires, would they look bad/small if I did decide to do a 2" level?

Thanks a million!!!

do the leveling kit, you wont be disappointed! if you do go with a 305/65R18 (can fit a 35x12.50 with a 2.5'' leveling kit with minimal to no rubbing at full steering lock) if no leveling kit go with 285/65R18.

I agree that the leveling is good and will probably go that route at some point, but I am still curious what the max diameter is that one can put on stock 18" rims on stock 4x4 '07 f150. The stock tires are equal to 32s, I imagine 33s would work fine, but what about 34s? or even 35s??

the 305/65-18 (34x12.50) BFG's may fit using the oem wheels and no lift, but it will be tight.

The stock tires are 275/65 and have a diameter of 32.1", 305/65 have a diameter of 33.6", thats only 1.5" bigger. I am not doubting you, but that doesn't seem to be a big difference. Surely one could go bigger than that? Maybe not... Or is it because they are wider tires?

How does the leveling kit make for larger tire allowance. It has been my understanding that the ribbing issue on the front or rear of the fender as the wheel is turned to it's extents, not tire contact with the top of the fender or wheel well?

That is true but that tire is also 1.5 inches wider. So when you add in the 1.5 inches taller and 1.2 inches wider that is a considerable diff. Some members have rubbing with the 305's with the leveling kit, so I imagine that it would be worse without it. IF you plan to get tires now get the 285/65/18. you wont be disapointed, if you are going to get the 305's wait till you can put on the leveling kit. I am sure that you could run them, but you would most likely expeience some significant rubbing. If you dont mind the rubbing and stuff go for it, I would advice against it.

It's not that it's gonna rub on the top of the wheel well but more likely on the inner fender while at full crank, not to mention your the upper control arms which would be getting friendly with your tires more often then you'd want. With a leveling kit it gives you the needed added clearance through-out your entire wheel well for bigger tires. The BFG AT 305/65R18 actually have an advertised height of 33.7 which is over an inch and half compared to your stock tires plus add in the extra width and thats what will more then likely cause you to rub probably more often then you'd like. My advice is if you want the 305/65 (basically a 34x12) get a leveling kit otherwise stick with the 285/65 (33x11.5). Also, the 305's will not look too small in anyway with the leveling kit. Do a search or check out the photo gallery and you'll find plenty of people running this set-up and it looks great . And I'd trust Wandell cause 99% of the time he's dead on with the advice he gives

Hey, thanks so much for the help, and the super-quick responses! You guys know your stuff...

One last question and it may be dumb, but isn't there a 295/65 that might work in between these two sizes? It would be a little beefier than the 285, and may not rub as much as the 305... Thoughts?

Not for an 18" rim.

If I am not mistaking, the only 295 tire that I know of is the nitto terra grappler (295/70/17) and that size is only for a 17 inch rims, cause I think that tire is an option on the new H3 hummers. Hope this helps. But I think that the new BFG mud terrian offers a 305/60/18 which is like a 33x12.5 tire. I think that you will still exp. a good bit of rubbing but possibly a little less than the 305/65/18 all terrain. Hope this helps, but I would go with the leveling kit if you are wanting that size tire. Click my camera icon, I had the 305/65/18 at's on my stockers, and now I have 35x12.5 bfg muds on my stockers. I have the 2 inch leveling kit on for both. Zero rubbing on both tires.

I wish they made a 33x12.5x18 BFG mud terrain. They need to come out with more tire sizes for an 18" rim.

Agreed they need to come down on price too, tire prices for the 18 inch rim are crazy.

BFG makes a 285/65-18 which is basically a 33x11.50-18 tire.
