question about larger tires and brakes...

While hunting around looking (ok, drooling) at tires and size calculators, one site had a warning about not going too large above stock tire size or risk brake failure.

What are some guidelines for installing larger tires/wheels?

I am anxiously trying to wear down my Cooper tires on my 03 Expedition so I can justify some BFG's (had them on my old toyota; I got 80K miles before the belts started showing. Great tires).

Just wondering what do you do about brakes? Larger rotors/calipers or just upgrade to slotted rotors and ceramics?

Any thoughts to help me find ways to spend more money are greatly appreciated

You have to look at EVERYTHING before you go and buy bigger wheels and tires.

1. Lift or a leveling kit to fit bigger tires.

2. Your Gears! If you have stock 3:55 gears like me you will need to upgrade to 4:10's, 4:30's, or 4:56's.

3. Roters and Pads, some guys here run stock roters and pads with 35" Mud tires. I'm getting powerslot rotors and hawk pads before my new wheels and tires.

4. Shocks, I've found that Bilstein 5100's are the best.

5. Tuner, to fix your spedometer and help with gas mileage and performance.

You can do without all of these things but your performance wont be so great. Im making sure I cover everything before I spend 3 grand on wheels and tires and then find out I have to do all this other stuff.

Good Luck!!!
