Thumbs down Vibrating Brakes

Well I'm getting really pissed off at these brakes that I bought. I seriously should have gotten replacement OEMs instead of this ****. I bought rotors from R1 Concepts and got them on and all right? Anyways ever since then I've had vibration in my brakes, and my right front rotor feels like its rubbing metal to metal. Its really pissing me off. First off the bolt holding in the bracket for the rotor was coming out so I had to tighten it up not once but twice! After that I got more of that metal to metal contact feeling on the rotor. Pads are fine and rotors are not warped. The rotor seems like its kinda pushing out on the bottom so its rubbing against the bracket on the bottom. Anything I can do? Its only my right front rotor and seriously I'm on my last nerve with this ****. Please help me before I seriously take these brakes and demolish the crap out of them. Thanks all.

EDIT: I did let them break in for 500 miles.

You should use blue threadlocker on the bracket bolts when you re-install them. I would pull it all back apart and inspect/re-install. If the rotor is rubbing the bracket either the rotor or the bracket isn't installed right.

I've pulled them out numerous times trying to figure out why, but still I have no idea why it rubs. I'm about to take it into a shop and have them check it out.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I was originally going to go with R1's but they really raised their price! I'd rather go with a much more proven rotor like PowerSlots. Have you contacted them about maybe returning them or exchanging them. They should be willing to help you if they are a good company?

Keep us posted! I hope you get it resolved soon.

Do you have a 4wd or 2wd? Either case, using the blue thread lock is a must. I do use antiseize on the smaller longer bolts. Also, the little metal inserts that the tips of the pads ride on have to have the smallest tabs folded so they don't get pushed or pulled into the rotor, NFG if that happens. NFG because it squeels too but because there should be some lube for the pads to slide on, this will go onto the rotor. Give it a solid look because something will stand out and make sense.

its a 4x4 but I'll check out those pads because those plastic covers you put over the pads where the piston of the caliper rests on are all messed up. But I don't really see that resolving my metal to metal feeling when I apply pressure on the breaks.

Haven't contacted them, but I really doubt that they will help me or exchange since I've had them for 500+ miles already.

The rotors are nice. I mean I can see that R1 really put time into making these. Its just I seem to be the lucky one and have problems with my brakes.

are you sure the pads aren't backwards?

Good point, making sure the wear indicator is at the bottom I believe.

Are your wheel bearings OK and properly adjusted? I had an old ranger, and when the wheel bearings loosened up, it would sound like the brakes were grinding when coming to a stop from freeway speed.

Thats exactly how it sounds! Whenever I stop sounds like my right rotor is grinding really bad.

I'll check my wheel bearings. Is it possible to have only one wheel bearings go bad?

I am having the exact same problem as you are describing. I am about to dig into it this weekend. I took the brakes apart a few weeks ago and they are not warped and have plenty of material but it sounds like metal to metal grinding when I come off the freeway and sometimes around town. It also sounds like my right front but not for sure... Let me know what you find, I will be working on my this weekend....and I have to fix it because I have to take the truck for a 2000 mile trip...

Check the shims on your pads.
When I got the shims they had 2 shims on them and they were all screwed up. I didn't notice it, but after I found it I took them off and put this brake silencer goo on the pads instead of shims. It just made it worse so I finally found one good shim and put it on the pad. So far it seems a lot better than before. I'm gonna go and buy more shims and put it on the other pad to see if it clears everything up.
