Are General tires and Continental the same ?
after a 20 mins. of phone work I spoke with the rep from Belle tire in Cleveland. He said " Continential ownes General. The tires are from the same mold with diffrent words on the side walls. " So there is the answer.
Not sure what two tires he is comparing, so a direct answer is tough.
But, it is true that Continental owns General. And there is plenty of technology sharing.
But if one or both tires are used by different OE vehicle platforms, you can bet that there are some sort of internal differences, despite the similar (or "identical") exterior appearance. Tread compound, internal construction, etc. can vary from tire to tire. Unfortunately, the specific differences are proprietary, and none of the tire or vehicle manufacturers will share what the exact difference is.
