Help - Wagner thermo quiets

I just changed my front brake pads with Wagner thermo quiet pads - the old pads had a thin backing plate on them - one side could come off but on the back side, they were attached to the pad. The new pads did not come with any kind of backing plate. Is the wagner just engineered a little differently, or am I missing an important part of the brake system? This is on a 2001 SuperCrew. Thanks for any input.

Not needed - part of the pad. If you experience any chatter/squeal (rare), you can always apply some of the blue crap to the backs of the pads - I never had to, though.

The Thermo Quiets are designed not to need that backing and not to need the goop. Quietest, smoothest pads I have ever used.

Just curious what the price of those pads is. And did you do replace rotors, too?

When I installed the pads at 11,000 on the front and at 31,000 on the rear, I did not do rotors. I later had to replace the front rotors at 45,000 due to bearing falure, and did not replace pads. No problem whatsoever.

The pads were about $45 per axel from a local parts store.
