Do I need new pads?
Do I need new pads?
I have a 2005 F150 FX4 and it has 44,000k. I haven't been able to stop as well as she used to and the brakes feel a little bit soft. I haven't done any towing. Should I really need new pads this early?
Probably just the front.
Pretty easy to check. Pull a tire and have a look see.
What's the level in your master cylinder look like?
In my experience, with OEM pads, you should be able to expect 30 to 40K up front and 70 to 80K on the rear. If all discs. Checking within those specs usually leaves a bit of a cushion.
I never let my pads wear below a quarter left.
Your driving style may cause a different experience than mine. But generally speaking...........

I should say you're about due there JTR, usually average is 45k miles and backs are usually doubled that or 10-15k less. It's worth a look anyways, when they are due, lots of dust happens, squeek and squeels. If coming off the freeway on an off ramp, under heavier braking, it should sound like a growling, like you're in 4wd. These are typical things I have found anyways. Before you ask which pads, do a search on here and vote yourself.
