Rim size

I'm going to be getting a set of aftermarket rims for my truck. I want them to stick out a little bit farther than stock, maybe an inch or two. I'm thinking about getting 15" because of how much cheaper they are. Do i need 15x8? What kind of backspacing?

If it is a 97-03 the smallest you can get is 16s. 04+ the smallest you can get is 17s.
