305/55/20 Toyo Open Country AT's - Will these rub?

Hey all, I have been reading this website like crazy lately. I noticed a few posts about the 305/55/20's rubbing on an 07 F-150.

I have an 06 FX-4 screw with the 2/5" leveling kit and a 1/5" AAL. I will be running the factory 20" rims. Will these tires rub with the 305/55/20's?

I drive alot of miles and would rather not have any issues with rubbing. If these tires will rub do you recommend another size that will still look good?

Thanks:beers:

I dont think they will rub since they are a 33. You could step up to a 35 with some minor rubbing at full turn lock.

I agree, you should be ok on the factory rims.

I agree.

Thanks all. I am going to take advantage of Toyo's discount they are running right now on that size tire.

Thanks

Not to disagree with everyone else who has posted but, yes they will rub at full lock. I just installed a set of 305/55/20's on factory rims, they rub at full lock. The leveling kit will not change the position of the control arm, you could raise the front end 5 inches and it would still rub. Its the width of the tire that causes problems not the height. I have minor rubbing at full lock but its not going to cause any problems. They look awsome.

Right, the rubbing on the control arms is a product of the width of the tires and the backspacing of the wheel.

Northerner,

Where did you find this discount?

With the rubbing issue, what aftermarket wheel size should I go with. I would like the tires to stick out just a bit from the wheel well.

Unless you just have some extra cash for wheels I would keep the factory 20's and go with the 305/55/20's. I have been driving on my set now for a week and have not had a rub yet. It only rubs slightly when the truck is in reverse and the wheel is completely locked, if I back the wheel off an 1/8" its clear. This rubbing is not an issue at all. You will not have problems if you want to run this set up. If you choose to go with aftermarker wheels I would look for something with around 5 to 5.5" of backspacing. The factory 20's have about 6" if I'm not mistaken, the more negative you go in backspacing the further the wheel will stick out which in turn allows more clearance from the control arm (unless you go with a crazy wide wheel) I would go with an 18x9 or 20x9 but trust me, if you want to keep those factory 20's you will be ok.

I am really thinking of going with the 285/65/20 to be safe. I drive alot of miles and do not want to have any issues with these tires. Can you take a picture of the clearance you have at the control arm?

Northerner Aug 17, 2007 03:07 PM

Raptor: I know you took some pictures of your truck also. Could you please email me them at sharpie3000@comcast.net. I would like to see what they look like.

Thanks

I just sent you a couple of pics, let me know if you dont get them.

Honestly, since you have the leveling kit the 305's may not fill the fender like you want. I do not have the leveling kit and the 305's fill out mine perfect. You asked about a 285/65/20, that is about 3/4" narrower than the 305 but its about 1.5" taller (34.5" diameter) since you are leveled the 34 may look better for you, the only problem is finding a 285/65/20, Nitto Terra Grappler makes that size but I havent found any others.
