OK. Weighing Options...Hummer Tires?

I'm doing a lot of "soul searching" for my '01 5.4 4x4 Expedition Sport.

On the one hand, I want lighter 17-8/9 inch Off Road Rims (27lbs ea a big savings over the chromed steel factory) to go with the Firestone Destination 285/70-17's (44lbs 2800+ lb load, 32.8 inch, and about $140 sent).

This combo will be lighter, wider, more aggresive tread look, etc. It will be 1 inch taller than factory 17's, and comes with very few negatives.

However, I am contemplating a 17-9 inch rim with a larger & taller tire, but the tires become cost and weight prohibitive very quickly (325 BFG Hummer tires are 64 lbs and nearly $245 sent).

And while they look great, I can't seem to justify the cost vs. look vs. negative effect on acceleration, braking, and MPG.

One of the make or break factors is the BFG 325's price. Is there a website that offers these monsters significantly cheaper-to further confound my thought process...?

If you want the H2 tires (315/70R17), call Hummer dealers and local tire shops for take offs. People have picked those up for under $500/set with under 1000 miles.

I have the 285/70R17 that only weigh 56 pounds and lookforward to replacing them with lighter tires.

Yeah, I'm looking. The Firestones are light, and can take 300 more pounds than the factory 17's. I may just go with that The weight of these things is daunting.

1 pound on the rim is like x4/1 pound on the tire is like x8 rotational hit

It seems like truck people don't care about that as much as sporty car drivers who try to shave 1 pound from their wheels. But truck owners don't care about having a 100+ pound tire/wheel combo.

I think the best option for larger tires with minimal impact on performance is the p-rated 285/70 of either Firestone Destination A/T or Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo.
