Can bfg mt's be balanced?????
Can bfg mt's be balanced?????
Ordered a set of 255/75/17 bfg mt's few weeks back and had them installed week and a half ago. These tires shake the wheel and seat between 50-60mph. Have taken them back to the place that mounted them and they have re-balanced with the same end results. They claim they are not out of round, but realy dont care beyond that since I ordered them from tirerack.com.
I had a set of the 31/10.5/15 few years back and was very very pleased with the ride and tread wear!!! These tires dont even seem close to the ones I owned a few years ago.
Is this a common problem with the new bfg MT's?
Any suggestions as to how to smooth these things out on a brand new 07 supercab 4x4?
Thanks!

Was going to buy local, but tirerack.com had them for $105.99.
Was too hard to pass up.
What is road force balancing?
What kind of shop would do such a thing? Some type of specialty shop?

Road force balancing is done with a Hunter 9700 tire balancer. It applies force to the tire (to simulated the weight of the vehicle on the road) as it is spinning. If you go to Hunter's website, you can search for the nearest shop with their machine. I only have one in my town.
go to Discount tire and talk to them. Cost me about 25.00 per tire, but what a difference. They check the tire and wheel on the computor, dismount the tire and rotate it on the wheel so that the "heavy spot" on the tire and wheel are 180 degrees out then rebalance the tire and wheel combo. I took about 2 hours, but it's well worth it.

update.
local store balanced twice with no luck! Dealer road force balanced for $60 with no luck! Local store re-balanced and then decided 3 tires were "bad" and decided to replace. Waited 2 weeks for 3 new tires only to have them mounted and still will not keep a balance. Bfgoodrich made me take them to another local shop only to have the guy try to re-balance and then tell me these tires are bad also. He did not tell me that he floats between stores and decided it was not worth his time to call bfg with his results. Bfg then made me take it back this time to have the truck inspected along with another attempt at a wheel balance with no luck. Tech rode in my truck after inspecting everything and said the tires are the problem.
After all this running around bfg decided last friday to fix this problem for me. Called today (9-4-07) for an update and was told the shop did not fax any paper work documenting anything and that bfg needed this to help me further. The shop pretty much told bfg they suck and need to step up and now they are telling me to take it back to the original shop that mounted the tires and did the first warranty adjustment.
This is a load of crap! I have had a long time commitment to bfg, but I will never again buy another set or for that matter buy from tire rack.com!
Tire rack keeps telling me they are sorry, but I feel after all this running around that they need to step in and help me out with bfg. I have been 100% calm during all of this and done everything they have asked me.
What is a realistic approach to handling this? I am loosing my cool and am starting to get very angry with bfg and the tire rack.
Lesson here is to pay more and buy local! Both parties swear up and down these are not blems, but the price makes me feel otherwise!
