wheel offset?

is wheel offset o when rim is in the center of wheel and - when the center of the wheel is in so that the tire sticks farther out? i am putting a 6 inch lift on my 150 and am going with bfg mud km 315/75 r 16 on a procomp series 97 rim and i want the tire to stick out from the truck(the side) i like the look but dont know how to do it without spacers thanks

The 97-03's came with 16x7 or 17x7.5 inch wheels. The backspacing on both is 4.5 inches. If you go to a 16x10 inch wheel with 4.5 inches of backspacing, it will stick out 3 inches farther than the OEM 16's and 2.5 inches farther than the OEM 17's. To get an idea how it looks, take a look at my gallary.

That combo should look perfect. I'd go with 4.56 gears personally (especially if you don't have the 5.4 or you tow a lot).

I think 10's would look a lot better personally. There are hundreds of 16x10's available.
