2001 Needs New Rubber

Hey guys. I am a proud owner of a used 2001 F150 Screw 4x4. Unfortunately I am very new to the whole truck thing. I need new rubber on my new, used, truck. The local tire store tells me that 265-75 16's are as big as I can go. A friend tells me I can go up to 285-75 16's, with a little trimming. My truck is totally stock. I would not mind doing a little trimming, as long as the tires do not rub AT ALL. I will be doing some off roading, nothing to serious for now.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Don't listen to alot of the tire shops because most of the time, they're going to tell you what the computer in front of them says you can put on your truck. And usually what the computer is telling them is pretty conservative.

For your set up, I'd go with the 285/75/16's just like you were talking about. That tire has alot of sidewall when they're on the 16 inch rims and I think they'll look really good. For tire choice, I'd choose the BFG AT KO. Im pretty partial to those tires but thats just my opinion even though I think alot of the members would agree with me on that...

As far as trimming goes, you shouldn't have to trim anything. I think if you went with 305/70/16, you would have to crank on your torsion bars but with the 285's, I think you'll be fine. I went ahead and cranked my torsion bars just because I think the truck looks better when its leveled out so its something to think about. Anyway, good luck with your truck and tire choices. You wont be dissapointed with your truck. Get some pictures up when you get the new rubber..

I'd stick with 265/75R16 for lower tire weight and better performance/mileage. I also recommend the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo which I though were better than the BFG AT I have now.

i'd go with the 265's, last tires i bought in that size were Kumho Road Venture AT KL78 ROWL, got 4 shipped for 465 from the tire rack, BFG and Bridgestone are good too if cost aint a factor.

To fit 305s i think you might have to trim the front valence a bit as well, but nothing major.

Good luck with your tire search, keep us updated!
