How Big Before...Upgrading?

I am looking at getting a lift for my truck...lifting in my town = bigger tires and wheels. Which brings my question how large of a tire can I move to before I have to upgrade my brakes? I have an 03 SuperCrew with ABS...factory rims are 17. I am currently running 285/70R17s but would like to possibly move up to a 18-20" rims with a 35" or slightly larger tire...will my brakes be ok?

Yes, your brakes should be fine.

They will be OK, but of course larger will be better. I would recommend upgrading the brakes. Keep in mind that when going to a larger wheel and tire, you are increasing the rotating mass, which creates more effort in order to stop the truck. The brakes will have to work harder..... I am not saying it is a neccesity, but it isn't a bad idea. There are a lot of people using stock brakes, which will work fine, but the larger brakes help offset the difference in performance. BAER brakes has some nice kits and are well respected in the brake industry and they have some inexpensive kits. I have the Eradispeed, which is a 1 inch larger rotor, which helps stopping... and they look good when behind a 20" wheel. Hope this helps.

By no means am I saying that your brakes won't work or they will stop like crap...... I am saying that of course it will stop better with larger brakes. But I agree with what bigtruck311 and Wandell said, your stock brakes will do just fine and work well.

Right, and a brake upgrade is always a good mod whether you are using large wheels and tires or not.

Upgrading could never hurt, but they are right, your stock brakes are fine.
