Totally overwhelmed

I have a 1997 F150 (2wd, reg cab) that I use to tow my bass boat. My tires will need replacing within the next couple months and I was looking at getting new tires / rims a little larger than what I already have. Maybe someday in the near future putting some sort of small lift on it.

I am the least most mechanically inclined person any of you have ever seen. What can I fit on the rims that I have now, the tire size is P255/70R16. Also can I put larger tires on the same rims without any problems? Or should I buy new rims? Can it be lifted being that it's 2WD? My goal is to make it look a little more "off roady".

Thanks in advance for your help.

A nice all terrain tire in 265/75R16 would be great for your stock height 2wd truck. Any more and they look too big for the wheel wells most people say. You can get a 3" body lift for your truck rather cheap and easy to install and 285/75R16 would look best. You can keep your stock wheels. No reason to change them other than looks.

I agree. There are a lot of lift kits for 4x2's. You are only limited by your budget and imagination.
