Help With Rim Size ASAP...

I was down at the shop getting my new 285/75/16 BFG All Terrains put on. The rims I am going with are 16x8 with 5" of backspace. When the guy test fitted a rim, he commented on how litle space there was between the rim and the tie rod end and the brake calliper.

The space was about a finger's width, and he said that a hard bump might cause something to grind or dent the rim. I have the tires mounted and balanced on the rims sitting here. Anyone else go through this? I thought a 16inch rim worked fine on these years? The truck is a 2000 F150 4x4 with the offroad package. Help soon would be appreciated.

I don't quite understand. I would think that if it clears it clears. The only way that would change is if you BENT a rim enough to rub the caliper or tie-rod end and if you did that it would be screwed anyway even if you had more clearance.

Yea thats what I figured. I talked to a mechanic buddy who said if there is clearnace when they are tightened down, they I sould be fine. He said they wont go anywhere and any clearance should work. Anyone else with 16" rims on this model?

I have 16" rims, many of us do. as long as everything clears when the rim is installed and spins freely, nothing is gonna change driving down the road. a fingers width is plenty of room, get thos tires and wheels installed and don't worry about it!!

you say you have 5" bs, the 16x8 steel wheels I just removed had 5" and they were fine. my new ones have 4.25" and stick out way more than the old ones.
