no lift-bigger tires

I own a 2000 f-150 sport 4x4 and I would like to know what the maximum tire size for 17 inch rims. I don't want to lift at all because it only sees mild trails. But I don't want to get pulled out by my cousins stock chevy colarado AGAIN! Talk about tail between legs any suggestions

you can put 315/70R17s' on a stock truck but they look really suffed and you'll have clearence problems especially if you 'wheel the truck even on mild trails. I have a 3" body lift and the 315's and plenty of clearence. I'd say if you do wheel your truck I'd go with a 285/70r17 or maybe a 305/65r17 which is the same height but wider.

You can go the 285's or 295/70/17 without doing anything, the 305/70/17 requires a torsion bar cranking and some valance trimming (maybe?). The 315/70/17's I think may be pushing the envelope.

thanks guys. tire dealers don't let you try them before you buy them.. any suggestions on brand I was thinking bfg all terrains but they seem to wear out quickly on the trucks around town? and $270 a piece is a sizeable investment.

I have the Nitto Terragrappler's, and I have no qualms about recommending them. I'm very happy with them.

I put 285 BFG MTs on mine and I love them. The truck looks so much more aggressive now and I get a lot of compliments on it. 305s look good to, I just didn't want any issue with rubbing.

You can easily get 60,000 miles out of BFG AT KO's. That's pretty good in my opinion.
