BFG All-Terrain
just got a new set of 285/70R17 BFG All-Terrain...i love these tires...i had nitto terra grapplers and i was goin to get them but i got a great deal on these i couldnt pass up and im so glad i went with them they ride alot smoother than the nitto's...i will post some pics when i get a chance its storming so bad right now...and i also got a bfg for a spare so now i have the same size all around and for the spare just in case...i cant wait too test them out in the rain...mud...and sand....
you will be extremely satisfied. I've had mine for about 6,000 miles now. In 4 inches of snow I was passing cars doing 45-50MPH when they were CRAWLING. I never ever lost traction unless I was stomping it. Even in heavy downpour, I drive as if I would on dry roads and dont think twice.
I know they, BF Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A's, get a decent rating by many here but they got a below average rating on the ConsumerReports webpage. . . right along side the Goodyear Wrangler AT/S.
Their "rolling resistance" and "cornering" numbers were terrible. Their "braking, emergency handling, snow traction and steering feel" were average.
The Goodyear's are [a lot] worse.
The Nitto Terra Grappler AT's were head-n-shoulders above the rest. The Toyo Open Country A/T's also rated above average.
Before I decided to get new shoes for my truck, I seriously considered put on the BFG's 33's on the OEM's but those rating figures turned me off them.

The BFG Rugged Trail T/A is a crappy OE quality tire. The All-Terrain is an very good aftermarket tire. I have them on two trucks right now and love them. Had the Rugged Trails on the F150 from the factory... sucked! Could not wait to lose them.

The rugged terrain and the all-terrain are COMPLETELY different tires. Like others mentioned, the RT tire is a cheap OE tire, but AT is a legendary, long-lasting, and very versatile tire.
