Wandell/MTB8 I need help! Major Screw Up Occured Today!

Guys, I had Moto Metal 951's 20 x 9 put on my 2006 F-150 4x4 King ranch today with a Nitto Terra Grappler 305-50-20 tire. I had to put a 2" leveling kit on it to keep it from rubbing. I am very unhappy as the tires flare outside my wheels wells approximately 4 inches and that was not the look I was going for. I am also still rubbing when turning the tire to exit a driveway or such. What should I be doing differently to achieve a flush look with the wheels wells. MT B8 you have the same tire/wheel combo and it looks as though your wheels/tires are flush with your wheel wells. I believe I got a -12 offset, should I have gotten the +30 to take care of this problem? Also, if I went this direction would it prevent the rubbing I am getting on the wheel wells. Plase help, I just dropped $3000 and am so unsatisfied.

MBMILLER25,

I have a 2.5" leveling kit and was looking to purchase Moto Metal 951's 20 x 9 with Nitto TGs 305-55-20 setup. I was looking at the +30 offset. I'm not sure how the offset changes the way they fit. Did you order the wheels or the Installer?

The installer ordered the wheels. I told him what I wanted, thinking they would be flush and he ordered them for me. I am waiting on Wandell or MT B8 to answer as they should be able to shed some light on what happened. I am hoping I can get them to take them back and get me the +30 assuming this will bring the wheel closer to the wheel wells.

I would think they would take them back. Well, keep up posted on this one. Good Luck!

What worries me about them taking them back, is they were special ordered, and I commented at the shop that I wasnt crazy about the look, and they told me they could arrange to have someone buy them from me and we could start over. A major hastle considering the wheels are now about 5 hours old.

Hey Funtuff,

I've been back and forth with which tires to get. I too, don't want the tires sticking way outside the fenderwells, but yet I don't want a tire similar to my stock width. The set-up your going with (305/55-20 on 20x9 Metal Moto's) is one of the 3 sizes I'm considering. I'll be getting a 2.5" leveling kit also.

When will you be getting your wheels & tires? Before I spend the money, I want to make sure that is the set-up I'm looking for. I've been having trouble finding pics of trucks with your set-up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Man, that sucks! You needed the +30mm offset. If you still have your factory wheels and tires, put them back on and try to sell them. Ebay is probabbly your best bet. The tire shop probabbly won't take them back since the tires have been mounted, they may be able to work out a deal with you though. I can't believe the shop you ordered them from didn't alert you to how that wheel was going to sit. Good luck.

Skid212,

I'm still trying to decide if I will go with a local shop or order them from the internet. the local shop quoted me $300 on the 20x9 Moto Metal 951 and $349 for the 305/55/20 Nitto TGs...$2840.00 for everthing. He seems a little high for the tire. If I can find a good price on the internet, I'll order them there. I'm looking to buy in the next couple of months. I even thought about just getting the wheels for now then the tires later.

I just looked at the Helo Maxx 6...now I'm torn. However, I don't think they come with the +30 offset and only a 20x10 size, but they sure do look good.

Another thought, have the tires taken off the rims and save them. That's the size tire you want. Most of the suspension lifts, 6" or more, require a wheel with no more than 5" of backspacing, so you may be able to find someone looking to put on a lift, which will require a wheel with less backspace. Roughly half of your expense was in rubber, so even if you take a substantial loss on the wheels, your still not in too bad of shape. Again, good luck.

Check out TOMZWHEELS, an ebay store. I think that setup is around $2400.00 mounted, balanced and shipped. Your better off putting your new wheels and tires on yourself, at least I think so.

mt_b8,

I'll give them a call tomorrow. I don't see the 305/55/20 on their site. I hope they carry them. I like their prices.

I have the truck shop looking into what they will do on the Moto Metal 951's with the +30 offset. Are you having any rubbing occuring on your truck? Do you have it lifted? or just a 2.5" levelling kit? I had the levelling kit put on, but was shocked to see I am still rubbing with any type of turn on uneven pavement. I will know in another 2 hours what they are willing to do.

Skid212, If you want to see pictures of what the setup will look like with the Moto 951's and Nitto 305-55-20 in a +30 offset, check out MTB8 picture of his truck. He has this setup and was the insperation behind my ordering what I did because I liked his look. I screwed up with the -12 offset and not getting the +30 offset which gives me that wide tire look.

MTB8, The brand new Nitto will not be harmed by initially mounting on the -12 offset and then being put on a +30 offset will they? The last thing I want to do is screw up some brand new rubber that just put me back $1200.

I was supposed to sell my OEM wheels and tires today and have put that off until I can get this al settled.

Yep, you need more backspacing.
