Tire Pressure Monitor System help??
Tire Pressure Monitor System help??
I just installed some new rims and tires on my 07 F150... The truck has the tire pressure monitoring system on it, when i got the new rims and tires i didn't put the tpms on them....... Does anyone know of a way to disconnect or jump the tpms on the truck? It beats going out and paying $70 a tire to put the tpms on the new rims and tires. Thanks.
are the sensors in the 07 not in the valve stem? Im still waiting on my 07 to come in, but on every car Ive worked with or had that had tpms on them they were all incorporated into the valve stem, so all that would have to be done is put the factory valve stem into the aftermarket wheels if they wheels are compadible
The sensors are on a band wrapped around the center of the wheel. Im not sure if they can reuse the bands if you stay with the same size or not but I went from a 18 to a 20 so I had to get new ones. As far as the price I dont know I just dropped everything off and they swaped everything out for me.

There are 3 parts to our TPMS...A band that wraps around the wheel, a cradle which attaches to the band, and the sensor which attaches to the cradle.
It's Corvette style. I've seen nothing but problems with those that have been incorporated into the valve stem...and most of the vehicles I see problems with are 2, 3 years old.

I had the same problem with my 07
. They were charging me $50 a wheel to have them taken off my stock wheels & into my new wheels. I called ford & the sensor cost $105 each! I decided to disconect the bulb! It took me 1/2 to get to it. Solved my probelm! I did not find any fuses or anything for that. I check my tire preasure weekly, I don't think I have a need for that system. That's for those that never check their tire preasure or for women.
Good Luck!

Anyway, I'm a big fan...I love my TPMS
No offense deapee but I'm glad somebody likes the system
. I think it's a big waste of my money and it's causing me a great deal of grief at the moment( tire and wheel choice). I gashed the side of my tire and boy am I glad I had the TPMS cause I knew I had problem 42 seconds before I was sitting on the rim. I'm all for safety but the money that went into research and developement would have been better spent on something else. When I see someone with a low tire I tell them and I hope everyone else does the same, now if they could come up with an idiot sensor to disable the vehicle when they try to start it up now that would be worth $500, can you imagine the benefit that would have on medical expense, car insurance, lost wages etc. Give me a good ole tire guage any day and while I'm on a roll how about the air pumps where you pay .75 cents and you can't even top off all 4 tires. Whew ,,I feel better,,,thanks for letting me vent

As far as cost, people keeping properly inflated tires will actually help save so much gas every single year that it's probably worth all the R&D that went into the system and then some.
You think TPMS annoys you, believe me it annoys me. I work in a tire shop and I get probably as it is now 3 people a day with a low tire light on...I mean we have actual work to do, and sometimes it's tough to have a guy take 5 minutes out of his brake jobs, alignments, tune-ups, and other stuff to go pull a car in and put 4 pounds of air in a customer's tire because they're too lazy to do it themselves then reset the low tire light...That's ridiculous. We have to start charging, and people are going to have to start waiting in line if they're incapable of putting air in their own tires. Because as it is now, probably only 1 out of 50 cars on the road has TPMS...I can't imagine what it's going to be like once all the cars on the road have TPMS...that could definitely get out of hand.
But anyway, I like TPMS for myself...and I would feel better knowing that my Mom's vehicle or my fiance's vehicle had TPMS on it...plus, I don't plan on working in a tire shop for the rest of my life...so bring them on.
I just put 20s on my '07 F150. When I was at the tire shop, I asked about the 'tire pressure monitors' ... if I had 'em. The tire dude looked at the valve stems and said, "Nope ... valve stems are normal. No pressure monitors."
So we mounted the tires. 285/50/20s on the wheels and I left. Drove about 40 miles in 3 days and decided the tires looked too small. Called and we decided to do the 305/50/20s on the same wheels ... Radd RD3s. (No pressure problems, no messages with the 285s.)
I started home from the shop with the 305s and 8 miles later the TPM light came on as did the message on the Lariat information center .... low tire pressure. I knew exactly what the deal was and remembered reading the owner's manual a couple months ago showing a photog of the TPM band wrapped around the center of the wheel. Ahhhh - haaaaa !
The band may work on the new wheels, but may not since they are 20's and the OEMs are 18s. I don't wanna try to remedy this minor deal.
I just click the 'reset button' every time I enter the truck and that message is gone. The small tire section light ( ! ) on the left side of the dash is still on after clearing the message center, but that's not a BIG deal for me. I'd rather it was not there, but when I remount the 18s I'm sure the system will reset and work just fine.
As far as having the TPM System .... I like it. But, that said, the systems I had in my 2001 C5 Vette and the one in the '03 BMW M5 did NOT work worth a crap. I got constant "check tire pressure" or some failure deal. The messages came on and went off all the time ... at least monthly. I'd check the pressures and they would be fine.
But, still ... I like the TPMS ... I believe this is a result of the law suit that Ford faced over the Firestone tire failures and the Explorers that they were hooked to. Personally, I don't think Bridgestone/Firestone or Ford were at any fault. But, that's where the tire monitors sprang from.

I have kept an eye on my tires for 20yrs I think I can continue doing the same for a bit longer and plus no headache when swapping out for different wheels.
