305/70/17 2007 F150

Ok so I know everyone is talking about this but I have spent days searching the forums and I just wanted to ask for my setup. First I am a complete and total noob. So I have a 2.5 leveling kit on my 2007 extended cab lariat 4x4 f150. Now I would like to have an offroad look but I don't won't any rubbing (minor cutting ok) and I don't want any road noise or as little as possible. I also would like the rims and tires to stick out but a very minimal amount. So I was thinking about 305/70/17 with 5.5 backspace or 315/70/17. I also would like chrome rims so any suggested combos would be great. pictures would be awesome. Thanks for your replys

I'd suggest running a 325/60-18 (33x13.00) tire on an 18x9 inch wheel with 5 to 6 inches of backspacing (depending on how far you want the wheel/tire to stick out). As a guide, the OEM 17 and 18 inch wheels are 7.5 inches wide with 5.5 inches of backspacing. There seems to be a better selection of 18 inch tires. I'd suggest looking at the Nitto Terra Grappler, Toyo AT, **** Cepek Radial FC II, Mickey Thompson ATZ or Pro Comp Xtreme AT.

Woonkie, the 305x70x17 are made by Maxxis and Goodyear but they are Mudder's, Nitto makes a 295x70x17 AT that would work on a stock wheel or a 17x8 or 9" wheel, 285's would work great too. If you want to go to 18's, do like Wandell said and go with a 325x60 or a 285 or 305x65x18 on 9" wheels. Stay away from the 315's unless you have a suspension lift because they will rub on a leveled only truck. I found out the hard way!

I went to the local shop today and they are saying now that they have done a bunch with this setup and they swear up and down it won't rub. what do you think? 35/12.5/r17 BFGoodRich Mud Terrains on motometal 17X9 bs 4.5, they told me that would not scrub, make any noise or stick out to far????

I have a set of 315's in my shed, the reason I took them off is that they rubbed. They were on my same 17x9 with 5"BS wheels. Click on the little camera and look in my gallery. 305's are about the largest you can run with only a leveling kit.

thanks all for replys and you have a great looking truck, so where did the 315 scrub? the shop is telling me I will have to cut some of the plastic on the fender. Was that done on your truck?

Lower wheelwells is where they rubbed, mainly at low speeds when turning. Doing any offroading they rubbed worse.

Well I have 33 X 12.5 on 17x9 wheels with 4.75 backspace and i rub while backing up. I think you would have problems with 35x12.5's. Also if you only want to stick out a little dont get a wheel with 4.5" backspace! My 4.75" backspace sticks way out!

BFG AT KO 315 70 17 on stock wheels.
2WD 2004 with a AS 2.5 Leveling kit. It doesn't rub anywhere.

Mounted on stock wheels is the only way they won't rub. Doing some serious offroading you might still get them to rub. I trimmed the lower part of my wheelwells and they still rubbed on the aftermarket wheels. You would need a 8" wide rim with a 5 1/2" BS to make it on an aftermarket wheel. American Racing makes a "Fuel" model that has these specs with a 6x135 pattern. I've been toying with getting some stock 17's and putting my 315's back on but with the gas prices going back up I'm in no hurry.

Backspacing seems to be the key with the 315 tire. I have had them for a couple of years now and have had no problem whatsoever. Your results may be different. Beware of posters who make blanket statements.
