Repace Hydraulic Unit for ABS
Repace Hydraulic Unit for ABS
So apparently the dealer diagnosed my ABS problem as a bad hydraulic unit.. price to fix it: $650. Not what I was hoping to hear! Any experience with this? Do brake places like midas do this type of work?
Thanks for the help,
Todd

I bought the truck at about 75k miles (have 100k now) and the ABS light has been on from day one.. Replaced the rear diff. sensor with no luck. So other than no ABS, brakes work great.
If you paid the dealer for the diagnosis, make them give you a FULL report of what they found, including all the codes & circuit checks that were done. If they can't, tell them to re-do it all, since you paid for it. If they won't, demand a full refund.
Once you have the codes & other data, you can make an informed decision on what to do next.

Thanks for the tip, Steve. I'll make sure I do that when I pick it up. I'm not having them do the ABS work, since apparently the whole front end is falling apart (new ball joints and tie rods)..But hopefully I can get the diagnosis and have it done cheaper elsewhere.
SO, what the invoice says:
Performed ABS Diagnosis - found circuit failure on VPWR to pump motor circuit. Pin point test indicates internal circuit failure. Needs HCU.
Again, cost of about $650.. gotta imagine this can be done cheaper.
