Spare Tire Winch

Hey I had a flat today (looking like I'll be getting a new set of tires sooner rather than later) and once I reeled down the spare it and took it off, the cable wouldn't reel back up. I know this isn't much of a tire problem, but has anyone had this happen. I think it might have something to do with the retarded key you have to use. Honestly do spares get stolen that much. thanks for the help guys

Make sure that you didn't strip the flat piece off the winch part (where you connect the rod in). Yes spare tires, AND tailgates are stolen frequently. Whoever thinks that Pickups have a lock on the tailgate is only so nothing inside gets stolen w/ a hardcover is incorrect, Tailgates are 500+ and w/ the new F150 and the assisted gate its even more so they get stolen quite a lot. I didn't notice how easy it was to take one off untill I did it over springbreak and it takes 1 guy 1 min. to take the thing off. Same thing with spare tires, easy as heck to steal and easy as heck to sell. They are in high demand so they sell them for pittens and got them for free because people don't lock thier tires up. It is more of a problem w/ 250's etc. because I think thier wheels are worth more or the tires are more expensive.

I've never spent the extra for a nice rim, so it's usually just a steel wheel with a tire I got for free from the bonepile at the local tire dealer, but to each his own I guess. thanks for the suggestion on the winch, but the key definately locks in there, it just doesn't seem to be winching anymore
