Great service from Discount Tire
Great service from Discount Tire
I don't usually comment on a company as I have found that we all have had good and bad experiences with companies selling us products for our trucks.
But I thought I should comment on the service I got from Discount tire.
The short story is that I bought a 2006 Ranger Reg Cab, 3.0 automatic, 3.73 gears. Had a Flowmaster 50 installed, plus the usual K&N airfilter. Sounds great.
(I was afraid it would sound like a Ricer)
It was just supposed to be a daily driver to help keep the miles off of my Supercrew and hopefully save some gas.
Well, as usual, I couldn't leave it alone. So a trip to Discount Tire and got a set of MB Razor wheels and some cheap Hancook tires installed so I good go bigger without spending a bunch of cash.
Big mistake. Like I said, daily driver, not looking at long trips etc.
Well, gas prices shoot up and I have a death in the family back in Texas. What the heck, take the Ranger and save some gas. Hit the interstate and have a vibration that is terrible. To late, gotta keep going. Well after a terrible trip, I get back home and go to Discount Tire the next day.
The guys jump right on it, and do the Roadforce balancing. What alot of work. Amazing what they do to try to get it right. So after they are done, the tech comes over and explains that the tires are "heavy". Meaning all four have a really heavy side. But it was within limits for the Roadforce balancing. Suggest I take it for a spin and check it out. If it's not fixed, bring it back and they will look at replacing the tires. So to the Interstate I go. Hit 70 mph, and the vibration, though not as bad, is still there.
So back to Discount tire. Walk in to the sales Office and tell em I want a set of Mich tires for my Ranger. The sales person says "the blue Ranger", I said yep. He looks up the tires I want then goes and finds the manager. Manager comes back and starts working on the computer. Told me he has had problems with the Hancooks not balancing right.
End of story, got me a set of Mich LTX tires, looks better, rides and handles better. Manager gave me full credit for the "junk" tires. No mileage penalty at all. And that is the first time a teck took the time to explain the situation to me and actually sounded like he knew what he was talking about.
So, I am a very satisfied customer and only blame myself for not getting the better tires before. Like is often said, "you get what you pay for".

yeah discount is a great place...i went in there once with a blown tire and i had a spare on there its a 265/70R17 and im running all 295/70R17 nittos and the guy manager didnt feel safe with me leaving like that so he gave me a "used" 285/70R17 BFG all terrain it is brand new but he said used so i didnt have to pay for it...and since then ive bought all my tires from them...that is a great company...they really care about their customers unlike some tire places...
I think the thing that really blew me away was the knowledge of the tech doing the work. I've had salespersons and managers sound like they knew what they were talking about, but never a tech. It's almost like some stores don't want you talking to them. This guy was sharp. He does the Roadforce balancing so I guess he has to know his way around a computer as well as a good knowledge of tires in general. Overall a great experience.
