Did you check the pressure switch on the master cylinder. In the past they have been known to go out and what you said about having your foot on the brake and the light would be off at start up and come on when you lifted sounds like that switch may be stuck.

well the shop i took my truck too today i passed emissions with no problem. State inspection they wanted $867 to replace front pads that had seperated (factory defect in the pads i guess), both front rotors that need turned, and serpentine belt being cracked . I told them they were out of there mind and i'll take the truck back into my own hands and fix things. They mentioned nothing about my ABS light being on so i guess it does not matter for PA inspection.

my mom's 98 windstar 3.8l was doing the same thing when it was just low on fluid. light came on when hitting the brakes no matter how hard, and top it off and light would shut off. Probably wouldnt hurt to bleed it all out, but it is still stopping fine.

I think it has to do with older resivoir lids dont hold pressure like they should be.

Alright went to the ford place and let them put it on the computer. The abs module is out along with the pump. They told me the pump is burnt up, but i ran a hot wire to it and it came on. Are they just trying to screw me on buying a pump? They posted on here the moudule can be rebuilt. Can it and by who? What would a rebuild cost? The ford place wants to charge me $1200 dollars to fix it.

Get this i found a wrecked 02 F-150 and picked up the module for $35 bucks put it on and everything is fine now. The ford place said the pump was burned up along with a whole lot af B.S.. The Ford Place wanted to charge me $1200 dollars to do what cost me $35 dollars to do. Grant you the part is not new but come on for that price who cares. Just goes to show you how they screw people who don't know any better.
