Wierd problem when stopping!

My brakes went crazy yesterday. I went to stop when I was leaving my driveway and my pedal started shaking. I lost stopping power and it made a weird noise. It felt like my abs was kicking in, but I was only going 5 m.p.h. So tonight I bled the brakes and checked everything. Then I took it for a ride, and now it does it everytime I stop. Before I bled the brakes it only did it sometimes, I also noticed that my brake fluid tank is very loose but doesnt leak. Is this normal? Is there something wrong with my brake booster? Is there a tsb on this? Oh yeah, its a 98 Navigator 4wd and abs w/49k on it. Im trying to sell it and I want it to be in tip top shape. Thanks guys, and God Bless!

Whats does a TSB mean? Does this mean that I can get this thing fixed for free? If not can they tell me how to? I know it means technical service bulletin, but what does that mean for me if my truck has one that im having trouble with? What should I do?

the brake fluid resevoir tank should NOT be loose like that. turn the truck on push the pedal down as if your stopping normak, then shut it off pump the pedal a few times it should get harder after a few pumps. if it stays the same the brake booster is not air tight. not a good thing.

Found out what the tsb says to do. They said it might be the speed sensor on the wheel. Where the heck is this speed sensor at, and how do I get it off?

yes most TSB's you can get worked on the for free at your dealership, just bring the TSB in with you b.c sometimes the dealership will play dumb and act like there isnt a TSB when there really is on out for your situation.

Just called lincoln and they said only under warranty will they cover it. Then he tells me that the TSB is only for 4x2. What should I do? I almost hit some lady because of this common problem. Now I cant even drive the thing anywhere. I hate fomoco.

you can try either calling a different dealership, or trying to find the actual TSB # you are trying to get worked under.

good luck!

Speed sensor

The speed sensor is the same as the ABS sensor in the 1998 'gator. It is located on top of the rear axle differential and it is not very expensive. You can see the plug if you get under the vehicle. It is held in place by a bolt and when removed you should be able to pry it out.
