biggest tires on 97 f150

i have a 97 f150 with 17" rims and i want to put bigger tires on it. what is the biggest size that will work without rubbing? i also found some tires online with these dimensions. i also found a website that says the maxium is 265/70/R17

Tire Width:
315

Aspect Ratio: (if that matters)
70

Diameter:
R17

will they work?

if its a 4x2 it will not even be close...get 33s...if you have a 4x4 with torsion bars cranked u can fit them maybe on oem wheels...no problem at most a little trimming..

True... 315/70/17 is a 35" tire and will probably looked a little stuffed with out a lift of any kind but will fit with some rubbing at full steering lock. I'd go with some 33x12.5's (305/65/17) if I were you. So far as 265/70/17 being the largest tire you can fit...thats B.S. I've got 33x11.5's (285/70/17) on my '97 4x4 and I havent got a problem in the world. No rub what so ever. Do you have a 4x4 or 4x2?

4x4 so i should be fine. also ive been thinking about tightning my torsion bars a little just enough to make it level. so would the 35 fit then or would a little cutting be necessary.

I tightened my torsion bars up for the same reason. I wanted the truck to sit level.

I want to say that you wouldnt have to trim anything on your truck. If anything, your front valence just a little. If you want the bigger tire, I'd go with the 35's. If you do get the 35's, post pics. I'd be curious to see how they look.

315/70-17's will fit by using the OEM wheels. There will be some minor rubbing on the frame at full steering lock.
