38" Tires Should I Balance or Shave them?

I have 38x15.50x18 Kumho tires, I called Discount Tire today to get a price on mounting and balancing them. The guy wasnt sure if they would fit under the hood on the balance machine. So I was wondering if i needed to get them balanced or if I could just shave them? Would shaving be good for the tires ware? Any help would be great.

If you shave them, you will be wasting money. You want the tread to last as long as possible. Try finding a custom shop, 4 wheel parts or offroad warehouse, and see what they can do for you. But you definitely need to have them balanced.

i agree, and no they wont fit under the hood of most tire shops, you will need to go to a offroad shop to get them balanced, and it will cost alittle extra. good luck

Thanks guys, ill find a shop that can balance them!!

Ford-bob, shaving is a machine that spins the tire and it has a blade that is applied evenly to the tires and it shaves the tire evenly across so all the tread is flat with the surface at the same time.

If I am wrong please correct me!!!

Balancing and shaving really acheive different goals. Balancing deals with equal weight and shaving deals with roundness. Racers still balance shaved tires.
