Rear end noise or tires...?
At 135,000 miles I bought some new Michelin LTX M/S tires.
One I started driving them I notice what sounds like a truck with mudder tires.
It almost sounds like putting your finger in a fan...brrrrrrrrrrrrr.
The sound is audible at around 30 and the frequency changes with speed.
At around 55 it is the loudest. I've rotated the tires, no change. I took them back into Discount and had the manager drive with me. We weaved the truck to see if the noise would change with varying loads on the tires, nothing. He said it sounded more like something in the rear end.
I would swear that the noise was not there before I bought the tires.
If the rear end was going out I would think I would hear something like a grinding sound or even a bad whine.
Thoughts???

well if the manager said it sounded like something in the rear end and not the tires, the wheel bearings may have gone bad, or may need to be repacked...but that usually wouldnt happen unless you've done some off roading and stuff like that, and it also would make more of a humming sound. However it IS something to consider taking a look at. My friends dad has an f250 with bad bearings on it(why he hasnt replaced them boogers idk) but his truck makes some pretty horrible noises, if the bearings are the case you definitly need to check em out because its a serious safety issue with those things gone bad. Well thats my input, good luck.
i agree with the above if the noise was grinding might as well go ahead and call a tow truck or drive it home in front wheel drive, but the whining is either a bearing going bad or possibly low on fluids in the rear end
I jacked up the rear end and ran it with and with out the tires and could not duplicate the sound.
Muffler bearings are fine, thanks for the tip though
