tire comparison

I tried doing a search but you get so many results that dont apply its easier and quicker to ask. Any opinions on the below tires. The bfg is only available in a 285 and the cepek is available in the 33x12.5. Also any opinions on mud tires over an all terrain for daily driving. Thanks in advance for the help.

The BFG MT KM has a reputation as one of the best mud tires available. The DC MT is very new. I havn't even read a review on it yet.

If I go to a mud tire will I be sacrificing alot of performance. Im more interested in gas mileage and power. Im not too concerned about the ride, its a truck after all!! I like the look of a mud tire.

Sean, I don't think your see a horrable drop in performance. I have 285 70 17 BFG MT KM on my silverado now and had them on my 03 5.4 F-150 FX4 too. they are true 33" tires not 32.X like some 285s. They ride great wear great (over 50K on mine and still lots of life left). Both trucks showed a huge improvement in off highway performance (it was reduced on highway with the F-150 as it came with LT265/70R17 Goodyear AT/S). They pull hard in the florida mud which is much naster then anything I had seen as a yankee. My friend got 75K miles with 4/32 tread left on his 03 Cummins 3500 DRW ram and they were 35x12.5x17. I've had great luck with the BFGs and they last forever. I pay under 800 out the door mounted and balance and you can't beat that. I've seen cepek at the mud pit and they don't self clean like these do but you better have a stout trans as these BFGs will kill one as you have to keep them spinning faily well to clean them.

you might also want to consider the 33x12.5 Toyo MT's- i believe they make them for 17's..

Thanks for all the replies. I will probably go with the BFG's. I had the AT Ko's on my '89 toyota and loved them. I would expect that the MT's would have the same quality and performance.

For mileage, a wide tire sucks, more rolling resistance. No way around that. Typically, and AT will get better mileage than an MT, but only by a few percent. A true mud tire is nasty riding and loud (Bogger), an MT will be quieter and much smoother, and AT is typically pretty quiet and smooth. If you're going to be 95% road with the occasional real MUD romp, MT is best choice. For all around performance (road and off) the AT is much better. 95% mud, no question where to go.

I think the BFG would be the best choice of the two but personally I would buy buckshot mudders instead I think they are just as good as the bfg mud tire and they are a lot cheaper.
