Off Set and Back Spacing

What exactly do I need to know about Off sets and Back Spacing before I order rims?

not too much really... it's the distance from the mounting surface of the wheel to the farthest point of the backside of the rim...

if your looking at the moto metals you're absolutely fine with their backspacing....

want to elaborate though exactly what you're asking?

Well I honestly dont know, ive just been reading around and noticed people talking about it so I figured I would ask. Well im not going to go with the moto metals cause they dont make them in an 18x10, so im not real sure which wheel im going to go with.

I have a related question and could use some help.

I'm looking to buy 20 inch rims for my 2004 screw 4x4. I was hoping to keep the new wheels and tires inside the wheel well. I really like the moto metal 950s, they have a 20x9 with the 6x135 bolt pattern and a +30 spacing. I thought that would do it but the guy said they were only for '07 f150s. They said that I had to get the 20x10s with -18 spacing, which would put the tire outside the wheel well. I was planning to mount them on 305/50/20s.

And now the questions-
If the bolt pattern fits then what's the problem?
If I get the levelling kit will I still have a problem with the 20x9s?
Will I have to get the levelling kit if I'm running 305/50/20s?

You can generally assume that if it's our lug pattern it's going to work as long as it's a mainstream brand....

KMC makes some nic 18x10's that will work...WELD racing makes some nice one's as well....putz around here and take a look... http://4wheelparts.com/4wp/products/index.asp?cat=TIR

I can't really tell you what's too much or too little, because at least in my looking, I've never really found a wheel that I liked that deviated a great amount from backspacing of about 4.5....

I haven't really seen a post here someone says "that wheel will not work" due to the backspacing....someone may chime in though, but If you're close to that 4.5in I thnk you should be fine, maybe someone will chime in for the what too much one way or the other...

someone will be along do answer your question for sure....

but...i think 305/50/20 is like 32 inches or so.... so I don't think it's 100%necessary for the leveling kit.....but...are you going for a street truck or offroad look...if you're doing the offroad look you might as well do the leveling kit (it's cheap) and put on some 33's....

someone will be along to answer your questions though...probably wandell

WIth a 97-03, you will want 4.5 inches of backspacing with a 10 inch wide wheel.
WIth an 04-07, you want to stay close to the same backspacing as the OEM wheels, which is 5.5 inches. I can't think of a reason why someone told you the Moto Metals with 6 inches of backspacing would only work on 07's.

5.5"???

How can you tell if the backspacing will be correct. I am currently shopping for wheels and all I see is offset #'s like 18, 30, 35, etc. How can I tell what would stick out or not?
