brake job for a 2004 supercrew

I just had my brakes checked at a nationally known brake shop for my 2004 Supercrew with only 29,500 miles. The service advisor told me that I was going to need a complete brake job pretty quickly and that the cost would be $1200 (new front rotors, machine rear rotors, new brake pads on all 4 wheels). This was largely due to the fact that my front rotors could not be machined - he claimed they had to be replaced because Ford built these with the bearings attached to the rotor. Does this price seem a bit high to anyone else? Can the rotors on the '04 F150 really not be machined? Please advise. Thanks!

I put pads on myself. Used a high quality semi-metallic, Wagner Thermo Quiet. The front pads were $48 and the rear $44. Took a couple of hours, and they work perfectly.Just do it yourself and save a bunch.

If you only have 29k, take it to the dealer. There is a TSB out about the brakes. They should replace the calipers, pads, and rotors on the front. All for free.

If you have 2 wheel drive model, the rotors are different than the ones on 4 wheel drive models. It is much much simpler on 4 wheel drive than 2 wheel. Therefore, it may cost more to service but not that much. I had new Hawk LTS pads on all four corners past weekend, I paid $200 and did it myself (1 hr) and planning on doing the rotors next spring. Now, your dealer will most likely not cover this under warranty 36/36..'cause it is normal wear and tear parts unless you start screaming. Good luck.
