rear brake help

96 f150,i am putting new shoes, drums on my truck.Got the shoes on,but when i put the drum on,it is a very tight fit.The parking brake seems to be too tight, but my manual says there is no adjustment on the cables. Is there anyway to loosen them up without replaceing the cables? They are not seized.
The brake adjustment scew is all the way in.I replaced all the springs with a spring kit

Then you don't have them assembled correctly. Click my signature link & look in the Brakes & Hubs album. The drum photos & diagrams are about halfway down the page.

i`m thinking it must be the e brake cables, they are the original, maybe seized enough to not let the brake off completely

you probably have to back off the star wheel adjuster, you have new brake shoes and the drum is adjusted to the old ones,is it so tight you cant get it on? or it just wont spin freely?

you might have a bad wheel cylinder, maybye its not retracting all the way.have u tryes totally disconnecting your e brake??when u press the e brake and the release it does it spring back??i had the same type problem and it was just my star wheel. my ebrake has always worked well, have to keep those things cleaned and lubed. drums brakes are a pain in the ***, why cant everything be 4 wheel disc lol

you said you put a new spring kit in right??nake sure you put high temp grease on the shoes.the part that rubs againt the backing plate, alot of people overlook that.shoes wont retract well otherwise.

forgot to say, when i put the e brake on while moving,it stops the truck and when i release it while moving i can feel it release but with some drag on the pass side, thats why im thinking its the cable not letting it release enough

The slot for the link bar in the e-brake lever & the slot in the rear shoe should be perfectly aligned to indicate the e-brake is fully released. If they're not, disconnect that cable from the equalizer under the driver's door, & then push the lever rearward to release the brake. If the cable doesn't slide easily, replace it. They're cheap at most parts stores - around $20 ea w/LLT warranty.
