325/60/18 Goodyear Silent Armors vs Nitto Terra Grapplers

So I call up Discount tire and ask if my Nitto's and wheels are in and the guy says yes and to come on down.

I get down there and all of a sudden the manager says, "hey I took the liberty of upgrading your tire from the Nittos to the Goodyear Silent Armors, its about a 40$ per tire upgrade and you get a 50k mile warranty. The nittos have no mileage warranty."

Well I have been reading this board for a few months now and have yet to see anyone running these goodyears. So my question is, what are your guys' opinion on this tire? Should I accept the managers deal? I walked out telling him I need to think on it.

any thoughts?

i believe its a newer size- i remember looking for tires and was checking out the silent armors but they were only up to about 30"...
thats a pretty significant change of tire if you ask me- someone who orders the nitto TG's is obviously going for an aggressive looking tire, which also performs well. the Goodyear looks like it would do great in most situations- other than mud, but it looks more street than off-road imo. so its your call- either take the g'dyears and the warranty, or the looks w/ the Terra Grapplers.

The Silent Armor's are pretty new while the Nitto's have proven to be an excellent tire.

If it were me, I'd take the Goodyear tires and run. I just put a set of these new Silent Armors on two of our fleet trucks and the guys love them. Excellent on road manners and very quiet. Great all terrain tire, the tread design is more aggressive than the pictures show.
I'd take em over the Nitto's any day.

FWIW - on my last truck I replaced the stock Michelin all season tires with Wrangler Silent Armor AT's. They made a big difference offroad and were just barely louder on the street. They were E rated and seemed to be very tough! Dog' em is right, the tread is a lot more aggressive than they would seem. I'd buy them again.

I have heard rumors of mpg's dropping noticibly after changing to the Silent Armors (probably due to the weight of the tire). Anyone else know anything about this?

Stock 2wd Dodge Ram 2500. OEM tires were E-rated Michelins 265/70/17. Replaced with E-rated Silent Armor's 265/70/17. They are expensive, but were great for towing and the flat dirt roads I've used them on (limiting factor was the horrible suspension and 2wd, not the tires).

Now that I have a 4wd, I think I'm gonna go with a little more aggressive tread. But, the Goodyears are still on my list. I think they'd easily handle any terrain I'd want to take my 6.5' bed screw. And without losing big chunks of rubber like the junky stock Generals did last weekend in the desert.
