Question A Few Tire Questions

1) When I use the tire size calculator at 1010tires.com I get a message saying..."Warning! When changing tire sizes, we recommend staying within 3% of the diameter of the original tire. Any more than this and you face the risk of brake failure."

Is this true, or merely a disclaimer to alleviate the site from any lawsuits?

2) I know that some tuners, somehow, provide ways of changing the speedo to compensate for larger tires. In the future I plan on buying and XCal2 from Toyer.

Does the XCal2 provide this feature or can my tire size be compensated for when Mike is customizing my tunes?

3) I'm looking at Nitto Terra Grappler 265/70R17 or 285/70R17. I recently lowered the rear of my truck with a set of Ground Force 2" Lowering Shackles. I'm currently running 255/65R17 Michelins. The 265/70R17s are about 1.55" taller (diameter) and the 285/70R17s are a whopping 2.65" taller according the tire size calculator at the above website.

Will either of these tire sized rub?

4) Nitto Terra Grappler mileage warranty.

Does anybody know what it is, or because it may be considered an off-road tire does it not have a mileage warranty?

5) I'm mildly concerned about gas mileage, but more concerned about power.

Will these tires slow me down, either by increased weight or reducing (I think reducing is right but it may be increasing.) the gear ratio?

Any help would be appreciated.

It's a disclaimer. Believe it or not, there are people that install 40 inch tires and don't even think about the other affects on there vehicle.
As for size, I'd stick with the 265/70-17's since you lowered the rear of your truck. You could have fit the 285's if you had lifted the front of your truck to level it.

Smile Wandell, You're the best.

You know Wandell you are exactly the one I was hoping would answer those 2 questions.

You must be the Wizard of All Things Wheels AND Tires.

Thanks

Question

Anybody know about the xCal2, the mileage warranty, or the potential power loss?

Yes Mike can adjust it for you when you buy the Xcal2.. With only increasing the tire size be 1.5" and not very much weight you wont notice a big difference.. Yes it will slow your acceleration but not enough that your going to notice..

As for the warrenty no idea.. I highly doubt the Nitto Terragrapplers come with a milage warrenty of anykind though.
