looking to upgrade the wheels on my 1997 F150...
so i need the help of what looks like some very informative posters. Very nice board to say the least.
My letting my son fix up my old 97 2wd, he's looking to put some 20' rims on it. Doesn't burn a drop with 155K on it. And of course he's gonna lower it. I'm letting him take the reigns, but it's been years since tricked a truck out, although I'm hoping to do so soon on my 71' Bronco half cab.
1)Anyhow, what is the allowable size of rims that i can use? Is 5 x 114mm ok? How much can the offset be from the standard size, which is 5 x 135mm if I'm not mistaken?
2)I don't want the wheels to stick out like the back wheels of a 67' Camaro, so is a safe width 8.5 to 9.5 inches?
3) Are there any tire widths that may be too small? 245, 265?
Any or all help is greatly appreciated. thank you for your time.

The bolt pattern is 5x135mm, nothing else will fit. Most wheel manufacturers do a good job with building wheels with the right backspacing now so you shouldn't have any problems. Personally, I'd go with a 22 inch wheel or you will probably regret it later.
