18" or 20" - which wheels to buy?

I'm buying a 2006 FX4 this week - not sure whether to get 18" wheels or opt for the 20" wheels. I want to install slightly taller than stock rubber (wish Ford offered as an option) - any suggestions?

I am running BFG AT 285/70 17's on my 1999 Lariat 4X4 now. Love them.

My brother has an 04 fx4 with the stock 18's and 285x65x18 bfg all terrains and it looks sweet for a stock truck. 20's are always cool though.

It's just personal preference.

it is personal opinion. I have the 20's, however, if you are going to do a lift or change to taller tires the 20's will be more expensive

with 18"s you can put on beefier looking tires, 20"s the rim will look bigger and just a slightly bigger tire.

Depends on how you use your truck. Are you going to do any offroading at all? Then I would get the 18's. If you are going to be a boulevard queen, then the 20's will be fine. I like as much sidewall as I can get. Plus the 18" tires are cheaper.

Ditto on the beefier tires comment. 20's w/autospring leveling kit IMO.

Check out my gallery. I have a 2 month old FX4 that I got with the factory FORD 20" wheels. I like the way it looks.

OK, I bought the one with 20's

Bought a 2006 FX4 with the optional 20 inch wheels. Anyone know the width of these wheels? **** Cepec sells a LT325/50R20 (33x13.50R20LT) that will fit a minimum 9" width.

I basically didn't think any of the three tire options Ford offers were very good for off road driving (or look beefy enough to fill those monstrous wells) but love the truck! Photos to follow in the days ahead!

Dont think that wheel will be over 7.5" wide.

18's... In my opinion it gives your truck a tougher look.

I have the OEM 20" wheel on my 2006 FX4 and it is 8.5" wide.
