Tire help - 2006 Screw 4x4

I know the answer is probably already here, but after reading through the forums for an hour, I more confused than ever. Here's the question:

What's the largest tire I can mount on my stock 2006 Screw 4x4 XLT with the stock 17" wheels? I'd like to use a leveling kit, but won't because I don't want to fubar the warranty. At least not until I've had it a little longer!

I want an solid AT tire that will give good wear. 85% or more of my driving is on road, but I want good performance when I get out to the desert or mountains.
And to be completely honest, I want it to look tough too!

I like the look of the Nitto Terra Grapplers. Are people really getting 40k out of them? Any comments on the Pro Comp Extreme AT's?

Thanks for the help. This is a great community and resource and I'm glad I found you all.

You can easily fit a 285/70-17 (33x11.50) or a 33x12.50-17 tire.

Are you going with a smaller diameter wheel or is 17" the stock size?

Only mentioned it because mine are 18". I guess the 4x4 are 17" and the FX4 18". Correct???

I think the '06 only come in 18" (stock) or 20" wheels (option) which is what I have. I could be wrong, but then again maybe that only applies to the FX4 which is what I bought.

06's come with either 17, 18, 20 or 22 inch wheels. Modifications don't void your warranty. A failure that was directly caused by the modification won't be covered but it's the dealers responsibility to prove it was caused by your modification. If you lifted it and say the upper balljoint went out early, your probably on your own. If the transmission went out though, it would still be covered. Worst case would be a front steering, axleshaft or suspension problem they could probably weasle their way out of it, but the dealer gets paid by Ford for the warranty work they do. I have never had a problem with warranty work before on Mustangs with modifications and a couple trucks with 6" lifts on them.

Thanks for that info, mwdhand.

No problem. You can read all about it for yourself, it's federal law called the Moss-Magnuson Warranty Act, enacted in 1975.
