Tire bubble

I'm looking to put new tires on my stock rims and I have a question. What makes the tire bubble out over the side of the rim? My tires now pretty much go straight up, but I really like the look of tires when they bubble out.

Does it have something to do with the width of the rim, compared to the width of the tire? Do certian rims make the tire bubble out? Are the tires just not inflated as much? Or is this a figment of my imagination?

For an example, check out the wheels/tires on this truck.

Thanks

Your link doesnt work, but you got the jist of it.

The setup you have now, the tires are not much wider than the rim. Most aftermarket tires are wider than the rims, so they bubble out. Thats really all there is to it. Keep in mind that you want to pay attention to the recommended rim width for the tire. If a tire is too wide or narrow for the wheel you are using, the bead could unseat.

phuenefe is right....the wider the tire, the more "bubble" you're gonna have in the sidewall...but pay attention to the recommended rim size for the tire that you decide on....

Good luck..._motes
